db Euro Ranking Tournament No. 4

Anton Cuschieri clinched the fourth ranking tournament of the season thrashing Troy Zammit 8-2 in the final. Cuschieri had an excellent performance and Zammit could not keep up his efforts.

Twelve players qualified for two teams A & B categories that will be representing our country in the European Championships being held in Ireland between the 9th and 16th February.

The twelve qualified players are Kevin Mercieca, Dylan Cassar, Chris Tabone, Anton Cuschieri, Mario Cutajar, Duncan Pisani, Phillip Zammit, Malcolm Azzopardi, Troy Zammit, Miguel Falzon, Warren Falzon and Wayne Bonnici.

After reaching three consecutive finals Tonio Mifsud made it happen winning this tournament with a convincing 8-1 victory over John Azzopardi. Mifsud was in great form and left no avenues to Azzopardi to recover. Mifsud will now join Christ Mills, Brian Grech, Manuel Mallia, Alfred Attard and Marco Bonello or Marcel Micallef, in the national team participating in the coming European Championships in Ireland.

 

Dejan Grech emerged winner from the final of the Under 23’s category. Thralling 5-2 Grech made a big come back and went on to beat Ryan Pisani 8-6. At the end of this tournament both players together with Ryan Falzon and Scott Muscat will be composing the Under 23’s national team participating in the European Championships in Ireland. Malta will be defending the European Title won last year in Malta.

 

Neal Caruana left his mark in the fourth and final Under 18’s ranking tournament valid for the European Championships qualification. In the final Caruana had the better off emerging youngster Nordai Desira with a convincing 6-1 victory. Caruana was consistent and thanks to this victory booked a place in the category’s national team that will be representing Malta in the coming European Championships being held in Ireland in February. At the end of the European Ranking Series the national Under 18’s team that will be representing our country will include Christian Spiteri, Liam Mifsud and Neal Caruana.
